About the Dallas Juniors Volleyball Club Dallas Juniors Volleyball Club was created fourteen years ago by Steve and Lyn Koch to help young athletes develop the skills necessary to become stronger volleyball players. Over the years we have grown from a small local club into a competitive club by maintaining our values and putting the needs of young athletes first. We expect to have a total of 15-20 teams for the 2007-2008 season. In September of 2005 we acquired a new home at the Sportsplex. We are excited about the opportunities our new facility will offer our club, players, and community. Philosophy Our focus is on developing the athlete's volleyball skills, teaching team concepts and making each team as competitive as possible, yet keeping it fun. Skill development includes all aspects of play as well as physical conditioning. Each week we concentrate on individual skills as well as team concepts. A player will improve with ball contacts; therefore, we place a strong emphasis on ball handling and control. Finally, we strongly believe if it is not fun then we are wasting our time! We offer three levels of competitive teams: Select Teams, Limited Travel Teams, and Local Teams. Select Teams will compete will compete at the regional and national levels. Limited Travel Teams will compete at the local and regional levels. Local Teams will compete in the Dallas area. Club Goal We focus on improving and developing the volleyball skills of the athlete through intense training and individualized teaching, having fun and working as a team. Winning is not our MAIN focus. Expectations Athletes are expected to attend all practices and tournaments and give the coach and team their best effort at all times. Excused absences will be given for family, school, and religious matters. These excused absences should be the exception, not the rule. They should be cleared with the coach ahead of time. Coaches will not tolerate poor efforts from the athlete or unexcused absences. Frequent excused absences or poor efforts will result in suspension from tournaments and possible expulsion from the club. Playing Time There is NO "equal" play rule. You pay for practice time not for playing time. If you have any questions other than "playing time" questions please feel free to approach your coach. We do not promise equal playing time but do promise playing time to all who show up to practice and give their best effort. If things are not resolved between you and the coach, please feel free to contact Wendy Munzel. Practice Time All Select Travel Teams and Limited Travel teams will have two team practices a week and one skills practice. Local Teams will practice twice a week.
